Solar and Battery Cost in Geelong: What to Expect in 2026

20 October 2026·By APM Energy

What changes the price of solar panels and home batteries in Geelong, typical ranges from APM Energy, and how to get an accurate quote.

The short answer

Every home is different, so the only way to know your real number is a site assessment.

What drives the price

System size (kW). More panels produce more power and cost more upfront. The right size depends on your daytime usage, roof space, and whether you're adding a battery or an EV charger.

Panel and inverter choice. Panels and inverters vary in efficiency, warranty length and brand support. A cheaper inverter can be a false economy because it's usually the first component to need attention.

Battery capacity and brand. Batteries are priced largely by usable capacity (kWh). Brand, warranty and whether the battery can provide backup power also change the price.

Roof type and storeys. Tile, tin and flat roofs need different mounting. Two-storey homes and steep or complex roofs take more time and safety equipment.

Switchboard work. Older switchboards sometimes need upgrading to safely take solar, a battery or an EV charger. This is checked during the assessment.

Backup power. If you want the battery to keep certain circuits running during a blackout, that adds design and wiring work.

Rebates and discounts

Home batteries can attract a federal discount through the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, and eligible Victorian homeowners can get up to $1,400 towards solar panels through Solar Homes. The battery discount falls on a published schedule, with the next step down on 1 January 2027.

We've covered how it all works, who qualifies and worked examples in our guide: Home Battery Rebates in Victoria (2026).

Why the cheapest quote isn't always the best value

Two quotes for "a 6.6 kW system" can be very different systems. Before comparing on price, check:

Three types of warranty. A product warranty covers faults in the equipment. A performance warranty covers how much power the panels still produce over time. An installation (workmanship) warranty covers the installer's work. A low price sometimes comes with a short or vague installation warranty. APM Energy provides a 25-year performance warranty on panels.

Licence and accreditation. Your installer should hold the right electrical licence and accreditation, and battery installs need a Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accredited installer with a battery endorsement to qualify for the federal discount. APM Energy is a New Energy Tech Approved Seller under the New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC).

Who you call if something goes wrong. Ask who handles warranty claims and how complaints are dealt with. APM Energy follows a published 9-stage process, from first consultation to after-sales support, with complaints acknowledged within 2 business days and resolved within 45. You can read it on our How We Work page.

Local and still around. We're based in North Geelong and have 7+ years of hands-on solar experience. The company that installs your system should still be there when you need it.

What a good quote shows

Use this checklist when comparing quotes:

  • System size in kW, and panel brand and model
  • Inverter brand and model
  • Battery brand, model and usable capacity in kWh
  • The STC discount as its own line (number of certificates and dollar value)
  • The Solar Homes rebate as its own line, if you're eligible
  • Product, performance and installation warranty terms
  • What's included: mounting, switchboard work, monitoring, removal of rubbish
  • Any extras, such as backup circuits or switchboard upgrades, priced separately
  • Expected installation timeframe

Frequently asked questions

How long does installation take?

Can I add a battery later? Often, yes, but it depends on the inverter and switchboard you have. If you think you'll want a battery in future, tell your installer now so the system can be designed with that in mind.

What size system do I need? It depends on your power bills, when you use most of your power, your roof, and plans such as an EV. We size every system from your actual usage during the free assessment.

Will a battery keep my power on in a blackout? Only if it's set up for backup. Not every battery or installation includes this, so ask for it specifically.
